EVER THOUGHT TOXICITY IS ASSOCIATED WITH APPLE?

'AN APPLE A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY' is a well-known proverb. From this, we can understand the health benefits of consuming an apple. Some of them are reduction in cancer risks, reduction in bad cholesterol, reduction in obesity, improvement in neurological health etc. This is due to the antioxidants, flavonoids and several other nutrients present in it. But have you ever heard of the risks involved in apple consumption??

The primary risk associated with apple consumption is the toxic content in its SEEDS. The apple seeds contain amygdalin which gets converted into Cyanide within the human body due to the digestive activities of our body. The Cyanide released from a gram of apple seeds may range upto 0.24 mg. The toxic level of Cyanide consumption for an adult is nearly 200 mg. So, consumption of seeds in a smaller amount will not cause harmful effects. But consumption in a larger amount will lead to Cyanide poisoning.

The next thing is OVERCONSUMPTION. 'TOO MUCH OF ANYTHING IS GOOD FOR NOTHING' is suitable in the case of apples too. The acid associated with the apple is 'Malic Acid'. This Malic acid, when consumed in a large quantity will lead to several oral disorders as they reduce the resistance of the tooth to prevent decay.

Thus, we have to consume the apple in an optimal amount. We have to eat 'an apple a day' not 'apples all day'😁😁.
