TRICHY ROCKFORT IS AN GRAVE.

INTRODUCTION:

Trichy Rockford is called as mallaikottai in Tamil and as a local name. A historical identity and a temple build on complex ancient rock. It is located in the city of Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India. and it is constructed on 83-meter height rock which is 273 in feet. To reach the top of the Rockford you should pass through 417 steps which are sculptured on the rock. Rockford was created before the era of Ramayana. and it is constructed in  580 AD by Mahendra Varma Pallava.

Lord vinayagar as ucchi pillaiyar and Lord shiva as thayumanavar are worshipped in Rockford.

HOW THE ANCIENT ROCK WAS FORMED :(STORY BEHIND)

Due to competition between Vayu Bhagavan and Adhi Seshan about superiority in mount Kailash. Adhi Seshan took a strong holding of Kailash. Vayu Bhavan with his air power applied strong wind force to defeat Adhi Seshan. when Adhi Seshan relaxed wind power fragmented Kailash into 3 pieces . one among three pieces is the Trichy Rockford.

STORY BEHIND APPEARANCE OF THAYUMANAVAR:

Rathnagupthan, the merchant of Cauvery poompatinam, performed a grand wedding of his daughter rathinavathy to dhanguptan of Tiruchirappalli. Rathinavathy, devoted to lord sevvandhinathar, when conceived. mother of rathinvathy proceeded with herbal oil, powder, and essential labor things to facilitate smooth delivery of daughter rathinavathy.

A heavy downpour of rain, throughout the country, resulted in the flooding of the river Cauvery. Shocked rathinavathy, frequently prayed to the lord sevvandhinathar of the hillfort. Be captivated by her prayer, lord shiva came in the guise of grey hair and aged walk with a bamboo cane. 

like her mother company of two maidservants possessing medicines, oil pot, gold, diamond, pearls, and royal clothing. relieving labor pain, she was blessed with comfortable delivery by the lord. rathinvathy mother hurried to see her, after the recession of floods. everyone was surprised and shocked to see two similar beings. 

Lord Shiva appeared in original form to clear the confusion. Lord Shiva, being the father of universal also worshipped as a mother due to divine features. Thiruchirapalli sevvandhinadhar is fondly called as Lord thayumanavar. and it also believed that thayumanawar biological tomb is situated right bottom of rocfort in which no one can acess.

STORY BEHIND UCCHIPILLAIYAR:

After the Ramayana war lordvinayagar disliked, vibhishana carrying Perumal's idol to Sri Lanka. kept Perumal idol on the ground though he was warned by vibhishana, which made vibhishana to give a mild hit on his head, Purana says hit make still remain on vinayagar head. it was an vinayagar's play to have shri ranganadhar.

FACT TO KNOW:

  Previously the Rockford was worshipped by an asura called Trisira . later the city got its name Tiruchirapalli.

The divine bell structure measuring 4 ft, 8 inches complimented by  Mr. Crichton, Britisher.

 Brahma theertham also called as somarohini was formed by Karaikal chozhaa in 12 st century A.D, with a length of 611 ft, breadth of 330 ft.

serene mandapam in center of divine pond was constructed by viswanatha nayakar in 16 century A.D

and it has a subway route to Thanjavur ( thanjai periya kovil) which 57 km from Rockford. it was mainly used as an escape route for the king and their fellows during war times.
